Electromagnetic locating is the most commonly used method to locate underground services. Using Hz or frequencies electromagnetic locating is used to trace conductive services such as copper water pipes , communication cables and electrical cables. 


Mapping utilities once they have been located is typically known as survey. Although we can carry out both works at OPL , Mapping is an efficient way to get the results you need. Its a basic plan with depths of services and real time aerial image as a backing for reference. Survey on the other hand is much more in depth and complex, it involves RLs , BMs , Contours and calculations . It is commonly used for design and construction. 

Hydro excavtion or non destructive excavation is the most effective and safest way to expose underground services . Most utility providers now demand that any contactor working within a certain distance of their underground asset engage a accredited contractor to carry out this works . GPR or Ground Penetrating Radar is used for non conductive services such as nylon gas lines , polyurethane water mains and concrete storwater lines. 

This non destructive method uses electromagnetic radiation in the microwave band (UHF/VHF frequencies) of the radio spectrum, and detects the reflected signals from subsurface structures.

Scanning suspended slabs , Precast walls , coloumns and beams for reinforcement and post tension cables is essential prior to making a penetration.
